Renovation exceeded our expectations!

If you are considering a renovation, you’re likely going to hear about many horror stories that will cause you to have second thoughts about embarking on your project. We were one of the lucky ones and I have to give a lot of the credit to Randy Famulak. We renovated our entire main floor including a major kitchen redesign and our downstairs level. At the end of it all, we were delighted with the results which exceeded our expectations. We are not only still talking to our general contractor (Randy) but consider him a friend of the family.

We did not have a lot of experience with renovations and going in, a main concern we had was would we be able to afford the final result and what surprises would we find along the way. No one likes surprises. Surprises on renovations can come from many things, including adding to the scope of the job (which is likely to some degree) or from your construction/design team not delivering what they said they would do, when they said it would be done or for the cost you expected. Randy can’t control the scope decisions, they are yours, and you choose the quality of the items you want but I have not seen many better at managing a project and workers, adhering to your specifications and keeping you informed. At the beginning of the job, Randy provided a detailed cost estimate and every two weeks, like clockwork, I received an update and a detail estimated cost to complete. Randy did a great job of communicating and keeping us informed exactly where we were in the project and what was coming next.

Another key responsibility Randy has is managing the various trades that are required to complete all aspects of your job. This may sound easy but is probably one of the most challenging and Randy does an amazing job. He holds them accountable for what they do, when they do it and he managed the cost as if it was his own money. Randy is a perfectionist and has an amazing eye for seeing even the slightest imperfections...I can think of many examples where it looked acceptable to us but was not good enough for Randy. He sent it back or had it redone, ensuring we got value for what we paid for.

Lastly, with any major renovation, comes a lot of intrusion into your home. Things are torn up, people you don’t know are coming through your home, etc. Randy not only managed the job for quality, timeliness and cost but was always concerned about the impact on the family and worked with us to minimize any inconvenience. He is extremely responsible and we trusted him 100%.

This role (and your designer) are the most important people you have to hire and we will use Randy again on our next project and have no hesitation recommending him to anyone.
